This month, we sat down to speak with ai Scrum Master, Samson Soulis, who shares his experience and favourite moments whilst working at ai.
What made you choose to be a Scrum Master at ai?
I believe as a Scrum Master, experience is key. The fact that I was to be the first Scrum Master at ai was appealing from a personal development aspect and meant that I would be able to help drive the right changes within the organisation, thus helping ai’s agile maturity and growth.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Every day is different in an organisation and agile allows one to adapt to these changes better. A typical day for me consists of identifying and removing impediments; facilitating; identifying waste within the processes, tools, and people; escalating; coaching; mentoring; and teaching.
What is your team like?
I am Scrum Master for two teams at ai- one team is quite mature and high performing; the other team has just recently come together and has loads of potential for positive development. Both teams are open and talented.
How do you ensure you keep your training and knowledge up to date?
One of the things I do, is constantly seek feedback from the team, as well as Release Train Engineer and other Mentors. I am also a member of a group called Scrum Alumni where we do a lot of knowledge-transfer and learn from each other. Apart from that, I am constantly revisiting the scrum guide and the agile manifesto.
What is the best part about your job?
What I love about my job is the ability to instil and drive continuous improvement on a personal, team, and organisational level wherever I am given the opportunity. There is nothing more rewarding than making something better- be it a person, process, or tool.
What is your proudest moment at ai so far?
My proudest moment so far was without a doubt the Program Increment Planning Event that was held. I have learned a lot and will do a few things differently next time, but although it was my first ever PI, I was able to cross-functionally generate a positive outcome from it.
How would you describe ai in 3 words?
Welcoming, Trusting, Progressive
